Several years ago, I attempted to roll out proactive maintenance agreements for my clients. The “managed services” model as it’s popularly known – where almost every part of your IT operation is managed by a local consulting firm or support provider (like Avrem) – is not a new concept. In fact, it’s extremely popular in other parts of the country. But here in Northeast Ohio the idea fell flat. The thought of “outsourcing” IT management to a company full time must have made people nervous.
In the end we tried a hybrid model that boiled down to nothing more than contracted monthly maintenance. I wasn’t thrilled with it. It didn’t include free remote and phone support so implementation was difficult and it was hard for our clients to see the value. Eventually, we simply ended the agreements with our test clients and promised to revisit the idea if they became more popular in the Valley.
Flash forward a few years; “managed services” is the industries hot new thing and it’s spreading like wildfire in other areas of the country. After a long hiatus I decided it was time to bring out managed service plans back and make them available to my clients. Then, one day, a client asked for some kind of monthly, flat rate maintenance and support agreements and I was positive the time had come. I set to work creating the best set of plans I could.
